Polillo is an archipelago rich in natural biodiversity in Quezon province, Philippines. Mangroves are crucial to Polillo’s resilience as they sustain endemic species and coastal communities. They are increasingly threatened by human activities and environmental degradation.
ECLOF Philippines provides financial services to disadvantaged communities in this region. These communities face significant challenges from climate change: rising sea levels, typhoons, and habitat loss. To address this, ECLOF organized the “Sowing Hope, Growing Resilience” mangrove planting activity in Burdeos, Quezon.
In partnership with local government, the Philippine Coast Guard and community leaders, 60 volunteers planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings in just 1.5 hours to restore damaged coastal areas and prepare for tropical storms. These mangroves will act as a natural shield against storms while fostering biodiversity and supporting livelihoods.
ECLOF received recognition from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office for its contribution. When the work was done, our volunteers celebrated solidarity and united action with a shared meal.
