Aug 3, 2015 – ECLOF is part of the ACT Alliance, a coalition of more than 140 churches and affiliated organisations working together in over 140 countries to create positive and sustainable change in the lives of poor and marginalised people. Together with the Alliance, ECLOF supports the “Act Now for Climate Justice Campaign”.
In December 2015, world leaders are expected to deliver a legally binding climate agreement that is fair, ambitious and acceptable to all. This will mandate action to prevent catastrophic climate change, while prioritizing support for the disadvantaged and vulnerable communities that are already suffering from the impacts of climate change.
ECLOF has joined forces with other ACT Alliance members to work together under the “Act Now for Climate Justice Campaign”. The campaign calls on world leaders to take ambitious climate action while enabling the poorest to continue to develop in a sustainable way. Together with our sister agencies we aim to collect 1 million signatures to deliver to the UN climate talks chief Christiana Figueres prior to the talk. Please sign the petition and add your voice on the call for climate justice!
The Campaign’s Global Climate Ambassador Archbishop Thabo Makgoba made it clear: “Climate change is a moral and a justice issue”. Read his interview to our partner Christian Aid about the Campaign during the last UN climate talks session in Germany in June and view the latest ACT Climate Ambassadors video
Our sister agencies in Africa are organising a Climate Justice Caravan to mobilise people to take action, meanwhile climate pilgrimages to Paris will be happening across Europe in the next few months as part of the campaign. Please help us to spread the word about the campaign, sign the petition.
