Dec 14, 2017 – As part of the community engagement of ECLOF Philippines, ECLOF staff regularly spend a day engaging in social activities within their target communities.

In October, staff from ECLOF’s Infanta office visited the indigenous Agta community at General Nakar, 145 kilometers east of Manila. Indigenous peoples represent nearly 14% of the country’s population but they continue to be among the poorest and the most disadvantaged social groups in the country. The Agta are a group that lives in the isolated mountainous parts of the island of Luzon. Some of them are ECLOF clients and have opened up their own micro business with ECLOF’s start-up loan.

After an opening prayer and bible reading, games for the children were organized. Staff distributed previously collected used clothing. Everybody shared rice porridge with chicken. The activity may have lasted for just a few hours but it will surely be cherished. Financed by ECLOF’s community fund, this day out was made possible by the volunteerism on the side of ECLOF staff. It goes to show that ECLOF cares not only about clients’ financial needs but also about bringing care to the communities we serve.
